#377. World AIDS Day

Tomorrow is World AIDS Day. The World Health Organization established this day in 1998.

Some important facts:

1. Over one million Americans are estimated to be living with HIV. An estimated 33 million people are living with HIV worldwide.

2. The CDC estimates that 56,300 new infections occurred in the U.S. in 2006. That's one new infection every nine and a half minutes.

3. In 2007, nearly three quarters of HIV/AIDS diagnoses among adolescents and adults were for males.

4. More than 20% of those infected in the U.S. do not know they carry the virus.

5. The number of new HIV infections have declined each year by about 17% from 2001 to 2008, but for every five people infected, only two start treatment.

6. There were more than two million AIDS related deaths reported globally in 2008.

7. Two million children under the age of 15 now live with HIV globally.

For more information, see the CDC fact sheet, World AIDS Campaign, and World AIDS Day Portland.

For the presentation of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award at the White House on Monday evening, Mrs. Obama wore a grey sheath dress from the Moschino Pre-Spring 2010 collection. I love this dress!

RE: #367. Charity Gift Giving

I read in Real Simple today that charity gift cards are available from Charity Choice, TisBest, and Just Give! These organizations allow the recipient to select a cause of her choice...Another great gift idea!

It's Thanksgiving week! What are you thankful for? I am most thankful for my family, friends, and Eloise. I am also extremely thankful for my mother's progress overcoming breast cancer. I have a lot of things to be thankful for this year, including my wonderful blog readers!

Have any of you heard of Lonny? Michelle Adams, former Market Editor of Domino, has teamed with photographer Patrick Cline to create a new online magazine. The magazine is published in traditional print format, but online! Love it!

Ruffles!

Mrs. O was in AVA today visiting the vegetable garden of a local elementary school. She looked lovely in a ruffled blouse from J.Crew.

#368. The Carrie Diaries

Candace Bushnell is coming out with a new book on April 27, 2010, just one month before the release of SATC 2! The Carrie Diaries is about Carrie Bradshaw's life before NYC - her high school days, first love, and how she became a writer. I can't wait!
